Operational continuity

A handover should carry the context.

A change of watch or a new person taking responsibility should not mean starting the operational story again. A handover is the point where that story needs to remain intact.

OneMaris perspective

Pass on the reason, not only the status

“In progress” leaves many questions unanswered. What has been done? What is still outstanding? Is the team waiting for a part, an approval or further information? We believe the record should carry this context alongside the status, so the next person can understand the work without rebuilding its history.

Make the next responsibility explicit

A handover is more than a list of open items. Each outstanding action needs an identifiable owner, a clear next step and a link to its supporting information. The record should distinguish the person carrying out the work from the person expected to review or approve it.

The next person should inherit the context, not just the task.

Keep working records close to the work

Photos, observations, instructions and related requests belong with the activity they explain. A summary can point to those records rather than copying fragments into another disconnected account. The aim is continuity between teams, not more administration for its own sake.

The OneMaris direction

Our design approach is to make responsibilities and record history visible across operational handovers. This is a software design perspective, not a replacement for a vessel’s established procedures, formal handover requirements or professional judgement.
